Whale Shark Research Volunteers

The Whale Shark & Oceanic Research Center (WSORC) has provided a nurturing environment for young people in their pursuit to become scientists for over 10 years. Many undergraduate and graduate students have served in various volunteer and part-time rolls assisting our scientists with experiments and basic operations of research.

  • Research Volunteers will be required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week for WSORC and 15 hours per week on their individual project.

Roles and advantages

Roles:

  • Volunteers are needed to man our whale shark expedition’s boats to assist in various activities.
  • Activities that volunteers might assist in are photo ID and tissue sampling as a means to track whale sharks.
  • As well as assist in and monitor on going experiments. Fish, reef and coral and ecological studies are as important to us as our whale sharks and we encourage individuals to apply in these disciplines.
  • Development volunteers also needed
  • Those with a desire to teach school age children and work with high school age children in our summer camp program are always welcome.
